It Was Always You | Rustic Backyard Wedding in Santa Ynez, Ca | Wedding Photography by Stevie Dee

Rocky + Sarah

October 24, 2015

Santa Ynez, ca

Sarah told me that she always had eyes for Rocky as he was one her brothers' friends growing up, but she was always just Jason's little sister. In high school, Rocky finally asked Sarah to be his girlfriend (with the approval from her big brother Jason, of course!) and the two were inseparable but, after four years, the two ended their sweet romance and went their separate ways.

Fifteen years later, Rocky just couldn't stop thinking about the "one who got away"...Sarah. With the encouragement from a few of his friends Rocky knew he had to get in touch with her. He texted her one night out of the blue and in Rocky's words, "mission accomplished". They rekindled their romance from so many years ago and instantly fell back in love. Rocky said it didn't take long for him to realize she was the one, but this time he wasn't going to let her get away.

He took Sarah, and their dog Pepper, to Yorba Regional Park which happened to be their old makeout spot in High School. They enjoyed a nice picnic, drank wine, listened to music and played with Pepper. Rocky yelled at the dog and says "Hey, what are you doing over there?!". While Sarah looked over at the dog, Rocky took the ring out of his pocket and by the time she turned back around Rocky held the ring and said "I don't want to wait anymore baby. I know with every bone in my body that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I love you Sarah. Will you marry me?" Sweet proposals just make us melt! See more of their engagement here.

Rocky and Sarah planned a rustic October wedding in the backyard of Rocky's family's vacation home in Santa Ynez, Ca.

One of Sarah's bridesmaids, Brandi, gave her the veil she wore at her own wedding to borrow.

Every detail was beyond gorgeous, the sprawling views from the ceremony site, the vibrant hues of orange and purple florals and rustic decor made this wedding a photographers dream!

The reception began with an incredible grand entrance and welcome speech from Rocky's Father followed by first dances and some of the most heartfelt speeches we've ever heard. At one point, I looked over at Ryan and were both wiping tears from our eyes! It was truly amazing to see the amount of the love and support from family and friends.

Right as we were packing up our gear to leave for the night we caught wind of the bridesmaids wanting to jump in the pool. After I found the bride's Mother, who confirmed the plan, I went straight to the bridesmaids and told them we were staying late to capture it on camera. I mean, the only plans we had for the rest of the evening were to go back to our hotel room and catch up on some needed sleep, but who needs sleep anyway?

We wanted to stay casual and keep the plan a secret from the bride and groom, so we put our gear away, grabbed a drink and tore up the dance floor for a little while. When the DJ announced the last song we grabbed our cameras and took position. Of course a much needed pep talk was involved, and probably some liquid courage as well. Dresses, hair, makeup...everything int he pool! If those aren't some dedicated bridesmaids then I don't know what is!

Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Leal and thank you for including us in your day! We wish you both the best!

XO,

Stevie + Ryan
